1Change your log-in background and ditch the standard blue screen.
Change your Windows 7 log-in screen and add a little personal flair to your computer with ease. The default Windows 7 log-in background is a standard blue background, but there's nothing in the way of you sniffing out a cool picture and using that instead. Once you find a JPEG file that is less than 256 kilobytes, you can personalize your Windows 7 log-in screen with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Instructions

    • 1
Click the "Start" icon in the lower, left corner of your Windows 7 home screen. Type "Regedit" in the Search box at the bottom of the Start menu and click "Enter." The Registry Editor program opens on the screen.
    • 2
Click the expansion arrow to the left of
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE," "Software," "Microsoft," "Windows," "CurrentVersion," "Authentication," "LogonUI" and "Background" in the navigation window on the left side of the Registry Editor program window.

    • 3
Click "OEMBackground" beneath "Name" in the right side of the Registry Editor program window. Highlight the number in the "Value data" field and change it to "1." Click "OK."
    • 4
Click the "Start" icon on your Windows 7 home screen and click "Computer." Click "C" drive, "Windows," "System32" and "oobe." Click the "info" folder, then click the "backgrounds" folder. If these folders do not exist within the "oobe" folder, create them.
    • 5
Locate the image you want to use as the background for your Windows 7 log-in screen. The image must be a JPEG file and cannot be larger than 256 kilobytes.
    • 6
Right-click the image and click "Properties" to see if the image meets each of these requirements. The file type will be displayed to the right of "Type of file" and the size of the file will be displayed to the right of "Size." Click "OK" to exit the "Properties" window. Once you find an image that meets the requirements, right-click the image and click "Copy."
